Questions in the Face of Tragedy

God’s Response to A Hurting World
This week we’ve been reminded of tragedies great and small. A Muslim fanatic opens fire at a Marine office in Chattanooga, Tennessee. James Holmes is found guilty of the movie theater slayings in Aurora, Colorado. One of our own, Shawn Jester, discovers that his work office has been broken into and nearly everything has been stolen. Several of our own are also laying loved ones to rest this week. There is a lot of tragedy in the world that affects us both personally and as a community.
What is God’s response to these atrocities and tragedies? Agnostic, skeptic, and believer alike have all asked the question, “If God is so good, then why is there so much evil in the world?”
Hopefully, over the last three weeks we’ve answered that question in part. The church is a big part of God’s response to a hurting world. We are His instruments of grace that have been called to touch a hurting world. The church is a safe place for hurting people.
But did God just start the church and take a break? What has He done to stem the tide of evil? Why doesn’t He intervene? Will He ever set things right? This week we will consider God’s response to a hurting world.
