We like things hot or cold, but not lukewarm. Hot chocolate. Hot tea. Hot cider. Cold lemonade. Cold milk. Iced tea. What happens when you drink something expecting it to be hot or cold, and instead it’s lukewarm? We spit it out.
Jesus’ reaction is no different. In Revelation 3:14-22, Jesus warns the church in Laodicea that he is about to spit them out of his mouth, because they are neither hot nor cold.
And yet, it is easy to grow lukewarm in our relationship with Jesus. As we look at the church of Laodicea, we see words of warning and words of promise. What kind of church are we, or, more importantly, let’s look inward and check our personal walk with Christ.
