The Garden of Eden was the perfect starting point for humanity. It was a beautiful and bountiful paradise where Adam and Eve could grow in their relationship with each other and with God, and from this Garden they could begin to build humanity into a glorious civilization. But something went very wrong. Both the Old and New Testaments point to what happens in Genesis 3 as where we went off course.
With their disobedience, Adam and Eve introduce into God’s perfect creation and into the human condition the problem of sin. This is the beginning of what went wrong. This isn’t just what went wrong for Adam and Eve. This is our story. The same thing that ensnared them, gets us as well.
