There is an experience that is common to most who have followed after Christ and walked with God for a number of years- that is the silence of God. God feels absent. His presence seems hidden. After seeming so real and so close that you could almost reach out and touch him, he now seems so distant we wonder if our faith has failed, or if God is even real.

When you first enter this spiritual desert, you think, “something must be wrong with me.” Certainly, sin and rebellion can have this effect, but this experience is common among those who are earnestly seeking after God and pursuing righteousness.

Why does God allow us to go through these times? This week we look at a time in Abraham’s life where he experiences the silence of God. From him we can learn about those times when God seems hidden to us.
