Do you remember waiting for Christmas as a child? As an adult when the holidays come barreling toward us like a runaway freight train, it’s hard for us to remember the long weeks of anticipation.

Abraham and Sarah have waited 25 years for the promise of God to be fulfilled. In Genesis 21, God’s promise becomes reality. Isaac, the promised son, in born. Just a year before, Sarah was laughing in disbelief that she could have a child. Now, she is laughing with the joy of a new mother.

God didn’t keep his promise in the way Abraham or Sarah would have chosen, but he kept his promise in the way He knew was best. It can be hard to wait on God, but God’s schedule is always better than ours. Waiting on God will always be better than getting what we want when we want it.
